Famous Malayalam filmmaker and director Shaji N Karun has passed away. 28, April 2025 On Monday, he was found dead at his residence in Vajhuthakoud, Thiruvananthapuram. He was 73 years old. Shaji Ann Karun, who has been battling a long time, was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and was brought to his house in Vajhuthakoud two days ago. Shaji N Karun was recently awarded the JC Daniel Award 2023 at the State Film Award Distribution ceremony. As soon as the news of director Shaji N’s death came to light, weeds have been mourned in the South film industry. This news has shocked the entire industry as well as his fans. Everyone is remembering them through social media and paying homage.

The reason for the death of Shaji Ann Karun

Born on 1 January 1952 in Kollam, Kerala, Shaji Ann Karun died due to cancer. One of India’s most respected film makers was known for his work in Shaji industry. He was dominated by people from his first feature film ‘Pirvi’ (1988), who won the Camera D’Or – Mention D’Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. Films like ‘Pirvi’, ‘Swaham’ (1994) and ‘Vanaprastham’ (1999), made under him, still like to watch audiences. He will be cremated at Saktivadom, Thakoud. He is survived by his wife Anasuya Devaki Warrier and sons Appu and Anil.

Malayalam filmmaker and director Shaji N. Karun has been awarded several awards by the government, including the National Film Award for Best Director for ‘Pirvi’, three National Awards for Best Feature Film (Pirvi, Vanaprastham, Kutti Srank) and several Kerala State Film Awards. Beyond the production of film, Karun played the role of a transformative in shaping Kerala’s film culture. He was the founder president of the Kerala State Chik Academy who was the first academy of India for film and television and was the Executive Chairman of the International Film Festival (IFFK) in Kerala from 1998 to 2001.
