New Delhi. Ranbir Kapoor started his career in Bollywood as an assistant director. He worked with his late father Rishi Kapoor for the film ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ (1999). Rishi Kapoor made his debut as a director with this movie. Akshay Khanna and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were seen in it. Recently Ranbir Kapoor told why his father Rishi Kapoor could not become a good director.
During an interview with Nikhil Kamat, Ranbir Kapoor told that his father Rishi Kapoor was a great actor, but he was not good at direction. Ranbir Kapoor said, ‘I assisted him for the film Aa Ab Laut Chalen, which did not work. My father directed the film. I realized that my father is a great actor, but he is not that good a director, because his temperament is not good. He is very short-tempered.’
“My father was not meant for this”
Ranbir Kapoor further said, ‘It is a very difficult job. Being a good director is a selfless job, because you are doing everyone’s work, but giving the credit to them. You are the boss on the set. Any decision is your own decision. Even from color to lensing, lighting and performance, everything is on you. In a way you are playing the role of God, but my father was not made for this.’

What did Akshay Khanna say about Rishi Kapoor?
Years ago, Akshaye Khanna had shared his experience of working with Rishi Kapoor in the film ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’. He had said on Simi Garewal’s podcast show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal that ‘He (Rishi Kapoor) has attitude problems, but he is a very nice person. I loved working with him and his entire family. They are wonderful people.’
The only film made under the direction of Rishi Kapoor
Let us tell you that ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ was the only film directed by Rishi Kapoor. He produced it under the banner of his actor-filmmaker father Raj Kapoor’s production house RK Studios. Talking about Ranbir Kapoor’s work front, he will be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s film ‘Ramayana’.
