Late actor and director Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary is on 14th December, which the Kapoor family is going to celebrate today. On this special occasion, many wonderful films of Bollywood showman R.K. Will be seen again in the film festival. Many of Raj Kapoor’s best Hindi films are returning to the screens. PVR and the Film Heritage Foundation are re-releasing his cult classic films to celebrate his 100th birth anniversary this year. This festival, to be organized in 101 theaters in 34 cities from 13 to 15 December, will be the most spectacular retrospective ever dedicated to Raj Kapoor’s cinema. Aag (1948)
This was the first film directed by veteran actor Raj Kapoor. Not only this, it is their new banner, R.K. It was the first movie made under Films. The most important thing was that it introduced Raj Kapoor and Nargis as one of the best onscreen pairs of Hindi cinema. This film also featured Raj Kapoor’s younger brother Shashi Kapoor, who played the role of his brother in his younger age.
Stay Awake (1956)
Written by KA Abbas, directed by Sombhu Mitra and Amit Mitra, the film is made in both Hindi and Bengali. The film is based on the struggle of a village man in a bustling city. Raj Kapoor was in the lead in ‘Jaagte Raho’. For this film he was awarded the Certificate of Merit at the National Awards.
Barsaat (1949)
Raj Kapoor scored his first hit as a director with this blockbuster which became the biggest hit of that time. ‘Barsaat’ was Nargis’s superhit film. After this, Raj Kapoor worked with the famous R.K. in Chembur, Mumbai. Started the studio.
Maverick (1951)
‘Awaara’ was one of the 100 biggest hits of 2012. Raj Kapoor became famous in Hindi cinema as soon as the crime drama became a hit. Written by Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, ‘Awara’ featured Nargis in the lead role and Raj Kapoor’s father and veteran actor Prithviraj Kapoor in the supporting role.
Sangam (1964)
Raj Kapoor returned to direction with this musical romantic. A love triangle was seen between the films Raj, Rajendra Kumar and Vyjayanthimala. It was the first Indian film written by Inder Raj Anand, which was shot in London, Paris and Switzerland. This film of about 4 hours was the longest runtime film of that time. It also became the second highest-grossing film of that decade after ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. Sangam was also Raj Kapoor’s first colorful film.
The country where Ganga flows (1960)
Produced by Raj Kapoor, the film was the directorial debut of Radhu Karmakar, who had worked with the actor-filmmaker several times as cinematographer. In this, Raj Kapoor was accompanied by Padmini who, apart from being a famous actress, was also a Bharatanatyam dancer. The film received the Certificate of Merit for Best Feature Film in Hindi at the National Awards.
Bobby (1975)
After ‘Mera Naam Joker’ directed in 1970, Raj Kapoor directed a film based on a love story with some new actors. So he launched Bobby with his son Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia which became a super hit and did well at the box office.
