Mumbai: The Gujjar organization claimed that Prithviraj Chauhan was a Gurjar ruler, not a Rajput. Along with this, the organization on Friday reiterated the demand of showing him (Prithviraj) as a Gurjar ruler in Akshay Kumar starrer “Prithviraj”. Prithviraj Chauhan was the ruler of the area which is presently in Ajmer. The film, which is slated to release next month, is produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi.
It also stars Sanjay Dutt, Manushi Chhillar and Manav Vij. Prithviraj Chauhan or Prithviraj III was a 12th-century warrior whose rule extended from Sthanvisvara (Thanesar) in the north to Mewar in the south. The present-day Ajmer of Rajasthan was the capital of his kingdom. Akhil Bharatiya Veer Gurjar Mahasabha claimed in a press conference held in Jaipur that the facts mentioned in the epics establish that Prithviraj Chauhan was a ‘Gurjar’. Acharya Virendra Vikram of Mahasabha claimed that Prithviraj Chauhan’s father Someshwar has been written as Gurjar in the first part of ‘Prithviraj Raso’.

He said that there are many other historical facts which clearly show that he (Prithviraj Chauhan) was a Gurjar. Vikram said that on the basis of facts, demands have been made from the filmmakers that Prithviraj Chauhan should be shown in the film as a Gurjar ruler and not as a Rajput. State President of the Mahasabha Manish Bhargad said that the Mahasabha had met the filmmaker last year and handed over historical evidence to him and requested him to present the correct facts in the film. There was no immediate reaction from the Rajput leaders in this matter. (bhasha)
