Hema Malini revealed this in a recent interview to Bharti S Pradhan. She said that she signed the film on her mother’s insistence. Hema said, “Before the muhurat of Baghban, B.R. Chopra met me and told me that he wanted me to play the role exactly the way he wanted. He narrated the story to me and I think, it was because of his blessings that the film did well.”

Hema Malini further said, “People still talk about that film. I remember when I was listening to the story from Ravi Chopra, my mother was sitting with me. After she left, I said, ‘They are asking me to play the role of the mother of four such grown-up boys. How can I do all this?’ My mother said – no, no. You have to do this. The story is good.”

How is the story of ‘Baghban’

Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini starrer ‘Baghban’ is an emotional story of an elderly couple who have been married for 40 years. After Amitabh Bachchan’s character retires, he reunites with his four sons and discusses who will accompany him. None of the sons wants to take care of both the parents, due to which both live separately. In the climax, the step son and his wife enter and what happens next, you will have to watch the film to know.

‘Baghban’ box office collection

In ‘Baghban’, the roles of Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan’s son were played by Aman Verma, Sameer Soni, Sahil Chaddha and Nasir Khan. Salman Khan played their step son and Mahima Chaudhary played the role of their daughter-in-law. This film was made on a budget of Rs 10 crore and it earned around Rs 41 crore at the box office.
