You must remember the Tomatina Festival in Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif’s film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol acted in Zoya Akhtar’s film. The Tomatina Festival featured for the song ‘Ek Junoon’ in the film was well received. As the film completes 12 years on July 15, here’s remembering the time when the makers said they brought 16 tonnes of tomatoes from Portugal.
How many tonnes of tomatoes had to be ordered?
During the film’s release, producer Ritesh Sidhwani had said that to make the festival look more realistic, he had to import 16 tonnes of tomatoes from Portugal as the tomatoes in Spain were not ripe. It is being told that only the cost of tomatoes and the cost of bringing them there was around Rs 1 crore. Zoya also revealed at the time of release that she shot the Tomatina festival at the same location where it actually takes place. So, he had to book the city of Bunyol for it.
People celebrated the festival twice
The residents of Bunyol were extremely loving and in return, they celebrated Tomatina twice that year, once for Spain and once for India. The director further said that ‘this festival is like our Holi and the world turns red on this day’. Though he enjoyed shooting for it, it was not good at all. Zoya said, ‘It was very strange for the makers.’ In the last 12 years, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ has become a cult. The film, its moments and dialogues are still etched in people’s minds.
