How the budget of films starts changing
Bollywood producers Murad Khetani and Siddharth Roy Kapoor arrived in India TV’s special film Podcast the Film Hasle. Talking about the changing patterns, content and business of the film industry, Khetani shared an interesting anecdote on Bollywood casting and budget. Talking about how the film’s cast is final and how the film’s budget changes, the producer shared his experience of making a film in 2013, in which the film’s budget had increased from 7 crores to 70 crores directly.
70 crores spent by making 7 crore films
Recalling his journey in the film world, Murad Khetani shared an anecdote related to Arjun Kapoor starrer ‘Mubarakan’ and told how he spent 70 crores while making a 7 crore film. Murad Khetani said- ‘When I signed’ Mubarakan ‘with a writer and director, it was a 7 crore budget film. It wanted 2 young boys. We went to many newcomers boys, but that role was such that everyone had to play the same role and not another. How much this script went to Sony, I got a call from Sony whether we can cook this film. The film started from 7 crores and the growing film reached 70 crores. The idea of union was that if 2 actors are not available, we do double roles, then Arjun played double role and all the growing budget also increased.
Arjun Kapoor played double role
The romantic comedy ‘Mubarakan’, directed by Anees Bazmi, was released in 2017. In this film, Arjun Kapoor appeared in a double role. The names of his characters were Karan and Charan, one of whom grows up in London and the other in Chandigarh. The film also featured actors like Anil Kapoor, Athiya Shetty and Ileana Dikruz along with Arjun Kapoor.
