There is a lot of uproar over the names of terrorists in Anubhav Sinha’s OTT show IC 814. In this web series based on the 1999 Kandahar hijack, Anubhav Sinha has used the names Chief, Bhola, Shankar, Burger and Doctor. Many people say that the Muslim identity of the terrorists should have been shown. The show is being boycotted on this issue. Meanwhile, citing old reports, an old interview of a person who was on that flight is viral. He had told that the terrorists were calling each other by codenames, which they heard on the third day. He also told who among them behaved well and who was more aggressive.
People thought it was a mock drill
Indian Express has quoted an old interview. It is reported that Rediff had published an interview in the year 2000. In this, Kolattu Ravi Kumar, who was rescued from that plane, had told immediately after his release that two of them were being called by the names Bhola and Shankar. Ravi had told that he was unable to get a ticket earlier. His number was 13 in the waiting list. When the hijackers said that the plane was in their possession, many people thought that it was a mock drill. The names of the hijackers were heard on the third day of the hijacking.
The leader was sitting in the cockpit
Ravi Kumar had said, ‘Their leader was a tall man, he was sitting in the cockpit. He must have been around 40 years old. The four hijackers who were looking after the passengers also had a leader, whom people were calling Burger. Burger was the one who was shouting at everyone repeatedly. When Burger was talking to the other three, I heard the names of the others – Bhola, Shankar and Doctor.’

The doctor was the best
Ravi Kumar had told what the temperament of the hijackers was. He says, Bhola was always angry. Shankar had the build of a commando. Doctor was the best among all the hijackers. Ravi also told that Burger had also apologized to the prisoners. He had said, ‘I am sorry that you people are in this situation. Personally, we do not have any enmity with you people.’
The terrorist was threatening to kill
Ravi had said that Bhola was going in and out of the cockpit and was abusing the government and was also threatening to kill everyone. On December 30, Bhola had announced that the prisoners would be released.
