One such young filmmaker is Satish Munda, who studied at Marwari College, Ranchi, whose film Jadugoda has received international recognition. Satish Munda’s film has received the Best Short Fiction Film award at the film festival held in Rio de Janeiro, Africa.
Satish Munda’s film Jadugoda shows the pain of the villagers who are suffering from uranium radiation. Talking to Local18, Satish says that his friend Rupesh Sahu had told this story. He knew about Jadugoda, but the plot of this story was a little different, so he wanted to go to those villages and understand the pain of the people. Satish says that people in Jadugoda are sick and tortured because of uranium. This is a very sensitive issue, so he planned to make a film.
Getting praise all over the world
Satish told that many documentary films have been made on Jadugoda till now. But no fiction film has been made till now. Fiction also has a little entertainment tadka. This makes the issues easily understandable to the people. Satish said that people are liking it. It has been shown at many places, where the story of the film has been praised. Apart from the award received in Rio de Janeiro, Satish Munda has also been awarded the Best Young Filmmaker Award for this film by the Samuel Lawrence Foundation. The main characters of the film include actors like Bollywood actor Harish Khanna, Chanda Mehra of Jharkhand, Santosh Mridul and Mahadev Toppo.
Father runs a ration shop
Satish Munda is originally from Kuvar Tola in Ramgarh. His father Ganesh Munda runs a ration shop and his mother is a homemaker. After his initial education from Ramgarh High School, he came to Ranchi, where he graduated from Marwari College. After this, he learned the nuances of filmmaking from Pune-based Films and Television Institute of India (FTII). Satish told Local18 that it was his childhood dream to become a filmmaker when he grew up. This dream has been fulfilled by making a film like Jadugoda.
