Many producers feel that a very good biopic can be made on the story of Neeraj
Mumbai, Aug 15 (IANS) | Filmmakers say the achievement of Neeraj Chopra, who recently won a gold medal in javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics, will inspire films based on athletics in Bollywood. Talking about the same, film producer Anees Bazmee told IANS, “Definitely it is a big achievement. Gold medal is a big thing and it has inspired the whole nation. Athletics like first Mary Kom biopic and others. But films have been made. I think more such films will be made. She is an inspiration not only for the film industry but for the entire country.”
The ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ director said, “However, I personally feel that it is too early to make a biopic on Neeraj Chopra as I am sure this is just the beginning of his achievements. He will achieve many more.” Producer Ashok Pandit, who recently announced a biopic on track and field athlete Pinky Pramanik said, “Our industry is always on the lookout for inspiring stories. Which inspire the nation and the world. Topics like this get us excited.”
Talking about Neeraj Chopra, Pandit said that his back story, his days of struggle, family, his hard work, will not only inspire the makers but also encourage the youth to take up the sport. Javelin throw is something that has already started making kids exciting after the achievement of Neeraj. Jaideep Sarkar, one of the directors of the latest anthology ‘Feels Like Ishq’ feels that Neeraj Chopra’s story would make a very good biopic.
He shared that sports has always attracted filmmakers, as it is much more than just sports. This feeling is about victory. Neeraj Chopra’s story is very compelling, which will make for a very exciting film. While biopics and sports dramas seem to be the most preferred genres in B-town, whether Neeraj’s success can attract more filmmakers to athletics as a subject, only time will tell.
