Mumbai, Aug 14 (IANS) | Actor Pawan Shankar is returning to the screen after a seven-year sabbatical with the film “Bhuj”, in which he plays Pakistani ISI chief Mohammad Hussain Usmani. Pawan says that his character shows the two extreme sides of a man, who fights for his country as well as loves a woman who is a spy and an enemy.
Since he is playing the role of a Pakistani, in a film like ‘Bhuj’, which celebrates the valor of the Indian Army against the Indo-Pak war of 1971, Pawan said that he tried not to make it a black character, But an antagonist that deals with the protagonist played by Ajay Devgn.
Pawan told IANS, “My character Usmani is a Pakistani ISI chief who is planning to destroy the runway of Bhuj. I tried to maintain a subtle element in the character, because even though he is a Pakistani, but He is on duty to serve his country. When a man is saving his country, he can go to any extent. I know it can go wrong and on top of that when you see one in an Indian film. Pakistani characters. But instead of making it look like a bad villain, the character was written with a lot of human elements.”
His character also has a love story with Heena Rehman, an Indian spy, played by Nora Fatehi. Pawan shared, “That love story is one of the interesting parts of my character which brings more dilemma to his mind. On one hand, he goes to extremes to save his country, on the other, he meets a spy. loves!” Pawan rose to fame with the TV shows ‘Siddhant’ and ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega’.
When asked about his experience of working in the film, Pawan said, “We shot a major part of the film in Bhopal. There is a Taj Mahal in Bhopal, which not many people know, but we did a major part there. Nora is a star in her own right. Well, but I must say, she is very dedicated and has a strong desire to do more. She is a truly admirable personality. I wish I had more scenes with her “
