Amitabh Bachchan made his debut with ‘Saat Hindustani’, which was released in 1969. After this film, he gave 11 back to back flop films, which broke his courage. Then Big B decided to return to Allahabad. But, then he was offered a film, which gave him a new opportunity in the industry and Big B took full advantage of this opportunity.

The film released in 1973 changed the fortunes of Amitabh Bachchan

We are talking about the blockbuster film ‘Zanjeer’ released in 1973, in which Jaya Bachchan appeared in the lead role with Amitabh Bachchan. The script of the blockbuster film was written by the famous writer duo of those days, Salim-Javed. Amitabh Bachchan had given 11 consecutive flop films till then, so no big heroine was ready to work with him. Not only this, Jaya herself also did not want to do this film, which she herself revealed.

Jaya was hesitant to work in Zanjeer

Jaya Bachchan herself revealed in 2012 that when Salim-Javed asked her to do this film, she was a little hesitant about her role in the film, Jaya was also not ready to do this film. Then Amitabh Bachchan asked her the reason for her hesitation, cleared all her doubts and then Jaya agreed to do this film.

Many heroines refused to work with Amitabh in Zanjeer

Jaya Bachchan had said- ‘Whenever I look back at our marriage, I cannot help but realize how quickly the days and months are passing by. Zanjeer was released in May and we got married on 4 June, in June we were husband and wife. In fact, all the heroines who got the offer of Zanjeer had rejected it. Then Salim-Javed talked to me and asked me to come forward. I was hesitant because my role in the film was very limited. Then Amit ji told me- I think you are hesitant to work with me. Then we talked and I agreed for the film.’

After marriage, Amitabh-Jaya worked in these films

Let us tell you, Zanjeer was released in theatres on 11 May 1973. This was the film in which Amitabh-Jaya reached their decision about marriage while working together. The film was released in May and proved to be a blockbuster. After the release of the film, Amitabh and Jaya got married on 3 June 1973. After this film, Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan worked together in films like ‘Abhimaan’, ‘Mili’, ‘Chupke Chupke’ and ‘Sholay’. Then after the birth of daughter Shweta and son Abhishek, Jaya Bachchan took a long break from work.
