Another glorious moment for Indian cinema emerged when actors Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann Khurrana were invited for the membership of the Oscar Academy.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited 534 new members on 26 June, including many famous artists and film professionals of the world including India. Apart from Kamal and Ayushman, the list also includes names like filmmaker Payal Kapadia, documentary maker Smriti Mandra, Casting Director Karan Mali, Cinematographer Ranbir Das, and costume designer Maxima Basu.
Internationally, this new batch also invited popular stars such as Ariyana Grande, Jason Momoa, Dave Botista, Conon O’Brien, Jeremy Strong, Sebastian Stan, Obrey Plaza, Gilian Anderson and Kerran Kalkin. If all these members accept the invitation, then the total member number of the academy will be 11,120, out of which 10,143 members will be eligible for voting. The special thing is that 41 per cent of this year’s newly invited members are women, 45 per cent come from underpressant communities, and 55 fees are from 60 countries and regions outside the US.
The Oscar 2026 will be held on 15 March. For this, the voting of the nomination will be between 12 to 16 January 2026 and the official nomination will be announced on 22 January. Conan O’Brien will host the Oscar this time. This new list not only reflects global diversity, but also proves that Indian cinema is now being taken seriously in international forums.
