The story of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency is based on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who, while being the PM, imposed a 21-month emergency in the country from 1975 to 1977. Indira Gandhi was heavily criticized for this during that time. Kangana is playing the role of Indira Gandhi in the film.
Pressure to not show the riots in Punjab
Recently, Kangana had said on Twitter, ‘Along with them, the people of the Censor Board are also getting a lot of threats. We are under pressure not to show the assassination of Mrs. Gandhi, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and the riots in Punjab. I am unable to understand what to show next. I don’t know what to show then that the film suddenly goes black out. This is an unbelievable time for me and I am feeling sad seeing the situation in the country right now.’
