The history of KGF is years old
Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) It is said about here that people dig out the gold by hand. Excavation was done for 121 years and about 900 tonnes of gold has been extracted from this mine. This mine was famous for the production of gold and in 1905, India was ranked sixth in the world in terms of gold production. The British used to call it the England of India.
British government took out a lot of gold
British government lieutenant John Warren had received news that there was a lot of gold in this mine. He had announced that any person who digs gold from this mine will be given a gift. In such a situation, many villagers went to dig gold. The villagers brought the soil of the mine in a bullock cart and brought it in front of John. When it was investigated, it was found that it was actually real gold. After this, John had extracted about 56 kg of gold from the people.

The British had come to know that there was a lot of gold in this mine. Now he wanted to get it at any cost. In such a situation, he used to get people excavated. The laborers digging by hand started dying. After this the British banned the excavation.

research on mines
It is said that retired British soldier Michael Levally read the report of this gold mine published in the newspaper. After reading this, he came to India and he decided to do complete research on it. Excavation started here again in the year 1875 for Leveli’s research. At that time there was no electricity in India. Electricity was arranged here for lighting and such Kolar is the first city in India, where electricity was the first to reach. After this the Britishers started coming and going here. Here the big officials started building their house and it was made a vacation spot.
KGF turned into ruins
After independence, the KGF was taken over by the Government of India and it was also nationalised. Bharat Gold Mines Limited Company started the work of extracting gold from here. Initially, the government benefited a lot from this mine, but then the company went into a lot of losses. There was no money left to give to the laborers, so the excavation was stopped. Only after this this gold mine turned into ruins. It is said that even now gold is present in this mine.
