Raj Kapoor was born on 14 December 1924 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He died on the 2nd of June, 1988, after contributing his art to Hindi cinema for almost three to four decades.
He had two daughters and Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor were his sons. After his death, his son Rajiv Kapoor did not reach for his last rites.
An anecdote related to this, writer Madhu Jain has written in his book ‘The Kapoors’, ‘Rajeev Kapoor used to blame his father and director Raj Kapoor for weakening his character in the film.
Mandakini became an overnight star due to the hit of ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ but it was of no use to Rajiv Kapoor. It is said that Raj Kapoor refused to make any other film for Rajiv. Raj Kapoor did not do this despite Rajiv Kapoor’s wish and Raj Kapoor kept Rajiv as an assistant. He would make them do all the work of the unit that a spotboy and assistant used to do.
Perhaps this must have been the reason why Rajiv Kapoor used to stay away from his father Raj Kapoor. For this reason, he did not even participate in the funeral ceremonies of his father.
Let us tell you that Rajiv Kapoor got recognition from the film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. In this film, he worked with the famous and beautiful actress Mandakini. The film was directed by Raj Kapoor and the film was well received.
Even today, there is a lot of discussion about this film due to the bold scene of Mandakini. Directed by his father, this film of Rajiv Kapoor was a hit, but you will be surprised to know that Rajiv Kapoor’s relationship with his father Raj Kapoor deteriorated in this film and it continued till the death of Raj Kapoor.
