Got work in films in childhood
Rupali Ganguly comes from a film family. She is the daughter of Bollywood film producer Anil Ganguly. The actress started her career with her father’s film ‘Saheb’. She appeared as a child artist in this film. Rupali was only 8 years old at that time. In her childhood, she also appeared in ‘Mera Yaar Mera Dushman’. Apart from this, she did many other films. There came a time when Rupali’s family had to face difficult times. Financial crisis made their life difficult. After making some unsuccessful films including ‘Dushman Devta’ starring Dharmendra, her father put all his money at stake and it was lost. Seeing the circumstances of the family, Rupali Ganguly started working in theater. To save money, she used to walk 15 kilometers.

The actress told in an interview with Mashabale India, ‘My first play in Prithvi Theatre was ‘Aatma Katha’, made by Dinesh Thakur. I used to get only 50 rupees for the play. Sometimes I also got a samosa. That was enough for me.’ After growing up, the actress tried her luck in Bollywood by working in films like ‘Do Aankhen Barah Haath’ and ‘Angara’. Both the films proved to be big flops. Explaining the reason for quitting films, Rupali Ganguly said, ‘I did not quit films due to not performing well in films. At that time, casting couch was mainly present in the industry. Some people may not have faced it, but people like me had to face it and that is why I decided to quit films. Still you are considered a failure because you come from a film family.’
These TV shows made her a star
Rupali Ganguly made her TV debut with the show Sukanya. It aired in the year 2000. This show did not give much recognition to the actress. After this, Rupali Ganguly became famous on the small screen in the year 2003 by playing the role of Dr. Simran Chopra in the medical drama ‘Sanjeevani: A Medical Boon’. This proved to be a big break for her. She also became famous in every household with her show ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, in which she played the role of Monisha, which is still liked by the audience. After this, the actress never looked back. After this, she worked in many hit shows like ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Kavyanjali’, ‘Ek Packet Umeed’, ‘Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai’ and ‘Baa Bahu Aur Baby’. After the birth of her son, she took a long break and then returned to the small screen with ‘Anupama’. People thought that people would have forgotten her in 5 years, but this did not happen.
