Madhubala’s sister Madhur Bhushan made a shocking revelation about her last days. She says that the hole in Madhubala’s heart was discovered when she was shooting for SS Vasan’s ‘Chalak’ in Madras in 1954, though the film never got completed. She used to vomit blood. Madhubala was advised three months of bed rest but she kept working.
He was tied with chains during the shooting of Mughal-e-Azam. She used to be in this chain for the whole day. His hands used to turn blue after the shooting was over. His condition worsened due to heart disease. The doctors had said that she would only be able to live for two years.
She also refused to eat food during the shoots as she had to look sad and tired for the prison scenes. His body used to produce more blood than required and this blood used to come out from his nose and mouth. Madhubala had not one or two but many serious diseases, due to which not only did Madhubala’s career end but it also took her life.
Doctors used to come home and draw blood from his body. She was also suffering from lung disease. In her last days, she used to cough all the time. He had to be given oxygen every four to five hours or else he would get breathless. She lay in bed for nine years. Only bones were left in his body. Seeing herself she would always cry and say, ‘I want to live, I don’t want to die, when will the doctor find a cure.’
