New DelhiMithun Chakraborty dominated the industry by giving one of the best films in the 80s and 90s. Today this disco dancer of Bollywood is celebrating his birthday and on this occasion we are going to tell you the story of his struggle in the industry. Mithun Chakraborty made his Bollywood debut in the year 1976 with the art film ‘Mrigya’. He left a deep impression on the audience and critics with his debut film. He also received the National Film Award for this film.
Mithun had proved himself after winning the National Award for his first film, but it was not easy for him to get work in the industry. In an interview given to Headlines Today in 2010, the actor told how he was rejected from films due to his colour and language. Mithun believed that he and Amitabh Bachchan had changed the trend in the industry.
Faced rejection due to color
The actor had said in his interview, ‘In the film industry, they talk about Bengali accent and South Indian accent, but they have no problem with a hero with a Punjabi accent. At that time, hero meant a fair person and this was the biggest problem for me. I used to think that I could only become a villain. A dancing villain, but I and Amitabh Bachchan changed this trend of the industry. Now they call me a dark Bengali Babu.’
Zeenat Aman changed her fate
Due to Mithun Chakraborty’s downcast personality, no leading actress of the industry wanted to work with him at that time. Meanwhile, director Brij Sadana decided to make the film ‘Taqdeer’ with Mithun Chakraborty and he went to Zeenat Aman with the offer of the film and Zeenat Aman was the first actress who thought Mithun Da was good looking. Zeenat Aman proved lucky for the actor, after which every actress of Bollywood expressed her desire to work with him.
