Mamta Kulkarni gets big relief in drugs case
Actress Mamta Kulkarni has got a big relief in a drug case. Recently, the Bombay High Court has dismissed the drug case registered against the actress in the year 2016. The court said that the proceedings against her are clearly frivolous and regrettable and continuing it would be like abusing the process of the court.
Mamta Kulkarni got relief from the court
In an order passed on July 22, a division bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande said that it is of the ‘clear opinion’ that the material (evidence) collected against Kulkarni prima facie does not make out any case against him. According to PTI, a copy of this order of the High Court was made available on Wednesday. The bench has said in its order, ‘We believe that continuing the trial against the petitioner (Kulkarni) would be an abuse of the court process.’ The High Court said that it is satisfied that this is a fit case to exercise its inherent powers to quash the FIR as the proceedings are clearly unnecessary and vexatious.
Know what was the whole matter
Let us tell you that Mamta Kulkarni had filed a petition in 2016 to quash the FIR registered against her by the Thane Police under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. She claimed that she has been framed in this case and that she is only acquainted with the co-accused in the case, Vicky Goswami. In April 2016, the police arrested two people for possessing one kilogram of a drug called Ephedrine. After preliminary investigation, a case was registered against 10 more people including Kulkarni. According to the prosecution, Kulkarni, along with Goswami and other co-accused, had met at a hotel in Kenya in January 2016 to buy and sell drugs.
