Akshay Kumar has announced his new film Bhoot Bangla on his birthday. It will be directed by Priyadarshan. The first glimpse of the movie has a black cat sitting on Akshay Kumar’s shoulder. He himself is drinking milk from a bowl. Very few people will remember that Mehmood has worked in a film with the same title i.e. Bhoot Bangla about 60 years ago. Now after Akshay Kumar’s film announcement, Mehmood’s brother Anwar Ali has given his opinion on this.
Mehmood had sown the seeds of horror comedy
Anwar Ali said in a conversation with ETimes, ‘The horror comedy genre that has come into the Indian film industry now, its seed was undoubtedly sown by Mehmood about 60 years ago, through his film Bhoot Bangla. It remained housefull for such a long time that I don’t even remember.’
Praised Priyadarshan
Anwar says that in that era when things were not so developed, there were neither computers nor VFX, Mehmood was using only a single resource and that was a mix of dimaad, melody and comedy. This was resulting in one blockbusters after another. Anwar praised Priyadarshan. He said, Priyadarshan is a very good filmmaker who adds his signature style to comedy.
