Mukesh Khanna got angry on Ajay-Shahrukh’s paan masala ad, scolded Akshay Kumar, said- ‘They say it is betel nut but..’

New Delhi: Mukesh Khanna is not only popular for his memorable roles in ‘Shaktimaan’ and ‘Mahabharat’, he openly expresses his views on various political and social issues. He has criticized big Bollywood stars for advertising products related to pan masala. He has requested Akshay Kumar, Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgan not to advertise pan masala and gambling apps.

Mukesh Khanna said in an interview to Bollywood Bubble, ‘If you ask me, I would say that they should be caught and beaten. I have told this to them. I have scolded Akshay Kumar as well. He is a very health conscious person and he says aadaab. Ajay Devgan says aadaab and now Shah Rukh Khan is also going the same way. Crores of rupees are spent in making these advertisements and what are you teaching people? We are not selling pan-masala, they say it is betel nut, but they know what they are doing.’

Mukesh Khanna also discussed the ill effects of surrogate advertising on the youth. He said, ‘When you advertise for Kingfisher, it means you are selling Kingfisher beer. Everyone knows that it is called deceptive advertising. Why do they do these ads? Do they not have money? I have told them this – don’t do this, you have enough money. Some actors have done it again, Akshay is one of them. If I am not wrong, Amitabh Bachchan has moved away from it.’ But, crores of rupees have been spent in making these ads. People are putting colours on each other. You are teaching people to eat gutkha! Don’t do this!’

When Mukesh Khanna was asked if he was ever approached to do such advertisements, he firmly said, ‘I have never in my life advertised for things like cigarettes and pan masala. Yes, big money is offered. There were offers, but such things are bad and I cannot promote them. I request all these big actors, ‘Sir, people look at you, copy you, please don’t do this.’ You have earned such a big name for yourself, people will say – if they can do it, we can also do it.
