The film’s director Farah Khan has narrated an interesting anecdote related to this role of Rakhi. Farah told that Rakhi was not her first choice for this role. He had cast someone else for this role, but the demand of that actress’s mother was increasing. She was saying that she should be given a room in the same hotel in which Shahrukh has a room.
Rakhi did such a thing in the audition
Farah was upset with him. In such a situation, his assistant suggested him the name of Rakhi Sawant. Farah talked about Rakhi Sawant’s audition in an interview with casting director Mukesh Chhabra. Farah said, “Rakhi had come to audition wearing a burqa. We were a little shocked to see Rakhi because the role for which she had come to audition was the role of a hot girl. But we did not say anything. She asked my assistant to roll the camera and then she took off the burqa, even the camera shook because she was wearing a bikini under the burqa.”
‘It will look great covered too’
Farah further said, “Her hair was orange. I didn’t know what to do with her orange hair. When we reached Darjeeling, we gave her sweaters and berets, so that she could change her look a bit, but Rakhi wanted to expose. Then I had to explain to her that she would look great covered up too. There was some difficulty in the beginning, but then it was a lot of fun working with him. The only thing he asked from me was that I should make him stand near Shahrukh in the song sequence. She was just happy with this.”
