‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram’ will be released in theaters on this day.
Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram, the 1993 Japanese-Indian anime film, is finally set to release in Indian theatres. The animated film was initially scheduled to be released on October 18, 2024 in 4K format along with its original English version with new dubs in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. But, later due to some reasons the release date of the film was extended. Now the new release date of this film has been announced, about which fans are very curious. Arjun Agarwal, co-founder of Geek Pictures India, said it was an honor to present “this epic” to fans and newcomers.

“By collaborating with the best in the industry and presenting it in multiple languages, we aim to ensure that this timeless story touches the hearts of audiences in every corner of India. It is more than a film, it is a celebration of our culture that connects generations together, showcasing India’s heritage through the unique artistry of Japanese anime, Agarwal said in a statement. Now this film is going to be released on January 24, 2025. Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram is distributed across India by Geek Pictures India, AA Films and Excel Entertainment.
Artists like Arun Govil, Amrish Puri gave voice
Earlier, Geek Picture India had said that it has re-scheduled the release of the film with the aim of making the film available in a larger number of theatres. Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan and Koichi Sasaki. In its earlier Hindi version, Ramayana star Arun Govil lent his voice to the character of Ram, Namrata Sahni lent his voice to the character of Sita and late Amrish Puri lent his voice to Ravana. Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha played the role of the narrator.
The film was screened at the 24th IFFI in 1993.
Renowned screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, known for the Baahubali franchise, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and RRR, has overseen the creative adaptation of the new version of the film. Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram was screened in India at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993, but was not released in theatres. It became popular among Indian audiences when it was re-telecasted on TV channels in the early 2000s.
