New Delhi. After being surrounded by controversy, the release of Kangana Ranaut’s popular film ‘Emergency’ is likely to be postponed. Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency has not yet received the certificate of the Censor Board. Emergency was to be released on 6 September 2024. Kangana Ranaut has made this film on the Emergency imposed in the country from 1975 to 1977. Kangana Ranaut has played the role of former PM Indira Gandhi in the film Emergency. Kangana Ranaut herself had told recently that the Censor Board wants some cuts in the film and due to this the film Emergency has not been given a certificate yet.
The controversy over Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency started because Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, a Khalistani terrorist leader, was shown supporting Indira Gandhi’s Congress for a separate Sikh state. Also, Sikh security personnel who assassinated Indira Gandhi were also shown in Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency. After this, Shiromani Akali Dal sent a legal notice to the Censor Board asking to stop the film. Apart from this, former Punjab CM and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi also warned on Sunday that Kangana Ranaut will have to first show the film to the Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee i.e. SGPC and get its approval. Channi has said that if Kangana Ranaut does not do so, the film will not be allowed to run.
At the same time, Kangana Ranaut has alleged that the film Emergency was approved, but the certificate was withheld. She alleges that the members of the Censor Board are being given death threats. Kangana alleges that Indira Gandhi’s assassination should not be shown in the film Emergency. Also, the riots in Punjab and Bhindranwale should not be shown. Kangana says that she does not know what will be left to show in the film then. Kangana also said that she is very sorry for the condition of the country. In the program Aap Ki Adalat of news channel India TV, Kangana Ranaut also said that Indira Gandhi did not die due to lightning.
