New Delhi. India’s famous musician and santoor player Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is no more with us. He died due to cardiac arrest. This news is a big loss for Indian classical music. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma has died in Mumbai. The musician died of cardiac arrest at the age of 84. Even before this, the musician was suffering from kidney related problems. He was on dialysis for a long time. However, today he lost the battle of life.
Santoor got important status
Shivkumar Sharma has a unique contribution to Indian classical music which cannot be forgotten. He has given recognition to a little known instrument of Jammu and Kashmir, Santoor and got the status of classical music to Santoor. Let us tell you that the santoor has got a higher status than the traditional and famous musical instruments like sitar and sarod. Shivkumar Sharma has also made an important contribution to the Indian film industry. He has composed music for films like Silsila, Lamhe and Chandni. He composed the music along with flute legend Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
