The pair of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar is known as Salim-Javed. Both of them wrote many such films together which are still liked by the people. Salim-Javed pair is also highly respected in Bollywood. However, now writer Amit Aryan, who has written serials like FIR and Lapataganj, has accused Salim-Javed of stealing stories. He has also made a shocking claim. He said that Salim-Javed have also copied the story of Sholay and Deewar.
‘Sholay is a copy of my country, my village’
In a special conversation with Digital Commentary, Amit Aryan said, “I do not consider Salim-Javed as writers. These are two people whom the whole world salutes, but both of them have stolen stories throughout their lives. Salim-Javed Not writers, but copy-writers.” He further claimed that Amitabh Bachchan’s film Sholay is a copy of Raj Khosla’s 1971 film Mera Gaon Mera Desh.
Similarities counted between Sholay and Mera Gaon Mera Desh
Amit said, “’Sholay’ shows a man whose hands are chopped off and a dacoit kills his entire family. The man then seeks the help of others to avenge the death of his family. Vinod Khanna played the role of dacoit Jabbar Singh in ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, who becomes Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) in Sholay. In Khosla’s film, actor Jayant has played the role of a retired soldier whose hand is chopped off by dacoits. In ‘Sholay’ there is a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) whose both his hands have been chopped off. The character Jayant in ‘Mera Desh Mera Gaon Mein’ seeks help from Dharmendra’s character to take revenge. At first Dharmendra’s character refuses to help, but later helps. Another character, Amitabh Bachchan, has been added to Dharmendra in Sholay.
Told the wall also to be a copy
Aryan has also shown similarity between Sholay and V. Shantaram’s films Do Aankhen and Barah Haath. Pointing to Kurusawa’s film Seven Samurai, he claimed that every scene of Sholay was taken from other films. He further said that Salim-Javed’s 1975 film Deewaar has been copied from Nitin Bose’s Ganga-Jamuna. He said that in both the films the story of two brothers is shown in which one brother is a criminal and the other is a policeman. In the end the policeman brother shoots his criminal brother.
Amit Aryan said, “He has also copied from his work. In the 1992 Ramesh Shippy film Shakti (Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan), there is a policeman whose son becomes a criminal. In the climax of the film, the father says- Vijay, stop otherwise I will shoot. When Vijay does not stop, father shoots him.” In this way Amit showed the similarity between Ganga-Jamuna, wall and power.
Every action of Sholay is a copy
He said, “Every film of Salim-Javed is a copy of some other work. Every frame of their film has been stolen from another film. Every action sequence of Sholay has been copied. He further said, Salim-Javed are better businessmen and They are salesmen. They know how to sell something, how to narrate it.”
