Shreya Ghoshal spread magic in Ram Kamal's work Binodini

National Award winner playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has lent her voice for Binodini for the song “Kanha” composed by Soreere-Saumrajn. It is a biopic based on Binodini Maid of Bengal theater singer.

The first song “Kanha Tosse Hriday Na Jorungi” of National Award winning director Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s film “Binodini – Ekti Natir Nahyan” was launched in a grand event in Ahindra Manch in Kolkata. On the occasion of the launch, actress Rukmini Maitra performed brilliant live Kathak, in which the complex feelings of the song were brought alive on the stage.

Set at a significant turn in the film, “Kanha Tosse Hriday Na Jorungi” captures the moment when Binodini Maid agrees to support Gurumukh Rai, who is a person who is a person in fulfilling the dream of establishing her theater. Being true to the filmmaker’s vision, Binodini Maid is not as a victim of circumstances but as a flexible artist, who adopted her art with strength and determination even among emotional challenges.

The song, composed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, composed by the film’s music director Saurendra-Soumuspon and sung in a soulful manner by Shreya Ghoshal, is filled with the rich tradition of Hindustani classical music. This composition, based on the raga manjh khamaj, contains elements of Kathak, which reflects the grandeur of a past era. Choreography is done by Manisha Basu, Sauvik Chakraborty and Avyan Roy.

In the film, “Kanha Tosse Hriday Na Jorungi” appears as a Mujra sequence, which is carefully choreographed to coordinate with the essence of that era. The songs prepared in Hindustani take the audience in a different time, reflecting Binodini’s internal turmoil and artistic aspirations.

On the occasion of the launch of the song, Shreya Ghoshal said, “About two years ago, when Ram Kamal Mukherjee said that he is making his first Bengali feature film Binodini, I am very happy for him. I know Ram Kamal Dada from his journalism. This classical composition took me to the world of Indian music. A iconic character, who stood against the patriarchal society about 150 years ago, she is worshiped as the goddess of theater and Sri Ramakrishna blessed her for her acting skills and to play the role of Binodini and make this song so beautiful.

The program ended with a thunderous applause, which overwhelmed the audience with complex details and passion contained in “Kanha Tosse Hriday Na Jorungi”.
