New Delhi. The 1993 Japanese-Indian animated film “Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram” is once again in the headlines for Indian audiences. Earlier this film was to be released in 4K format on October 18, 2024, but due to some reasons its release date was postponed. Now its new release date has been announced. The film will now release in theaters on January 24, 2025.

The film will be presented with new dubs in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. “This film is a celebration of our culture, showcasing India’s rich heritage through the unique artistry of Japanese anime,” said Arjun Aggarwal, Co-Founder, Geek Pictures India.

Released in 1993 but not released in theaters

The film is directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan and Koichi Sasaki. It was screened at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993, but was not released theatrically. It became popular among Indian audiences during its telecasts in the 2000s.

The creative adaptation of the new version of the film has been supervised by V Vijayendra Prasad, who is famous for films like Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and RRR.

Famous voices gave life to the characters

In the Hindi version of the film, the character of Lord Ram was voiced by Arun Govil, Mother Sita by Namrata Sahni, and Ravana by late Amrish Puri. Additionally, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha played the role of the narrator.

Geek Picture India also said that they have re-scheduled the release date of the film to reach more theatres. The film will be distributed across India by Geek Pictures India, AA Films, and Excel Entertainment. The audience was waiting for this animated film for a long time. Now it will be interesting to see how much place this film is able to make in the hearts of the audience on January 24, 2025.
