The lead roles in the film are played by actors Mukesh Rishi, Vindu Dara Singh, Dolly Mattoo, Drishti Grewal, Sardar Sohi etc.
Talking about the casting of the film, director Kalyani Singh said, “There are many brilliant actors in our film industry, but when you watch the film, you will realise that only those actors could have played that character and there was no other option.”
Giving information about the selection of the story of the film, Kalyani Singh said, “I had heard a lot about the film “Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai”. I had heard that people used to go to the theatre by removing their shoes and slippers to watch this film. But in true sense, my husband Maan Singh ji introduced me to this film. Maan Singh ji had interviewed the director of “Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai” during his journalism days. Since then, he had a special feeling about this film. I thought that I have to make a film with this title. But the path was not easy. When Maan Singh ji and I started planning to make the film, there were many challenges in front of us. First of all, we did not have the budget to cast the big stars of the film industry in our film. Therefore, we needed something solid and strong, on the basis of which a strong foundation of the film could be laid. The truth of today is that no matter how good the content is, a star and a brand is needed for the success of the film. We were looking for the base of our film when Maan Singh ji thought that We should make a film with the title “Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai”. Firstly, this title itself has been a superhit and secondly, it contains the name of Baba Nanak, hence it does not need any star or brand. We had to get the rights from the makers of the original film to use the title. It took 2 years. Finally, by the grace of Baba Nanak, after waiting for 2 years, we got the title of the film.
Talking about her preparations for the film, Kalyani Singh said, “The title of the film had Baba Nanak’s name attached to it. Therefore, our responsibility was much bigger. Understanding the responsibility, we started looking for a good story. But even after a lot of searching, we could not find a story that could soothe the heart. Then I started writing a story based on the experiences of my life. There are many people associated with my and Maan Singh ji’s life who were blessed by Baba Nanak and their lives changed. When I wrote the story, Maan Singh said that I should direct the film. He believed that since I have lived this story, no one else can do justice to it like I can. I had truly lived the story in every way and then I had training in film direction from Hollywood director Martin Scorsese. Baba Nanak gave me courage and bravery and I decided to direct the film. During the making of the film, I learned the Punjabi language. I gave a lot of time to every department of the film and tried to make it excellent. The result of this hard work is that the film is releasing on 24 May 2024.
Giving information about her journey in art, Kalyani Singh said, “I loved watching movies since childhood. I always participated in cultural programs organized in school. I enjoyed performing on stage. I learned Kathak from Gopi Krishna ji and received classical singing training from Shambhu Sen ji. I was very interested in art, cinema, music. My inclination towards art and cinema increased further when I met my husband Man Singh ji. Man Singh ji was active in English journalism. He also inspired me to do writing work. At that time I used to work in Abu Dhabi Bank. I liked Man Singh ji’s suggestion. I left my job and started journalism. I used to write in English language. During the days of English journalism, I wrote about films. I interviewed film stars. This increased my interest even more. After some time, I and my husband Man Singh ji started making advertising films. Then gradually we traveled from advertising films to independent film production. During this time we produced films like Gunehgar, Jumna, Raja Bhaiya. The biggest reason for happiness for us is that despite coming from a non-film background, we have achieved a position through our hard work, perseverance, talent and dedication. This is our achievement that we are still making our films, telling those stories that touch our hearts.”
Kalyani Singh told that in the coming time she is planning three films named “Kyon Chup Hai Ganga”, “Jholjhal.com”, “Kaash Tumse Mohabbat Na Hoti”. It will be interesting to see what kind of response the film “Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai” which is going to be released on 24th May gets.
