Bollywood films have been struggling at the box office for the past few years and have been under considerable criticism for their superficial stories. The business of Bollywood films is now being reduced to brands and it is also becoming a mite -grinding situation with wheat. On this bad phase of Bollywood, industry experts in India TV’s special podcast ‘The Film Hasle’ described their opinion. The program was hosted by Akshay Rathi and experts like Vishek Chauhan, Devang Sampat and Amit Sharma participated. In this conversation, Vishek Chauhan explained why animated films are not going on in Bollywood. Not only this, why Hollywood films which were made in Bollywood, would never have been able to walk, they are printing a hefty amount in India.
What did Vishwas Chauhan say?
Vishek Chauhan told Akshay Rathi in The Hasle Podcast why animated films are also not able to play in Bollywood. Vishk says, ‘Bollywood is a place where the audience is not the same. There are many types of viewers and different stories go on here. If we look at Hollywood, animated films are very well. But this is not the case in Bollywood. One of the reasons behind this is that this perception remains in the minds of people that animated films are for children. But this is not the case, animated films can also be seen with the family. Venak said that it is very strange that films like Openheimer have earned well in India. Not only this, Barbie also made a lot of headlines in India.
Numbers spoils the game of perception?
Vishek Chauhan told that ‘things are changing now. Because the perception of the people is set, then its effect is seen. But I think there will be changes with time now. Because we now have data and we can calculate the business afresh. The science behind this is gradually making its place. Now we can see our viewership. Like if there is a film which has been seen 10 million times. But now we can see where the people saw it and why. What are the reasons that have done well in a particular field.
Cinema hall decline
Venak also spoke about theaters. In which he said, ‘Cinema should be associated with people. On the digital platform you can target a group and introduce content, but there should be unity in cinema. So that people of every group understand it and feel connected. The content shown in theaters should also have access to a person with the lowest economic background. Only then cinema will get the success he is looking for. He further said, ‘When I went to Bihar in 2009, there were more than 100 cinema halls in my area, but now this number has come down to 8. It is not that people have stopped watching movies, but you have to bring a content that pulls people to the cinema hall.
