Sanjay Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Prem
There is rule of not one but two Kapoor families in Bollywood. First is the family of Prithviraj Kapoor and second is the family of Boney Kapoor-Anil Kapoor, who have been ruling the industry for years. The children of Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor are also a part of the film world now. After Sonam Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor has also entered the film world. There is another member of this family, who entered the film world years ago, but his career did not work out as expected. We are talking about Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor’s brother Sanjay Kapoor, who after films has now become a well-known name in the world of web series.
Boney Kapoor-Anil Kapoor’s brother Sanjay Kapoor
Bollywood’s veteran actor Anil Kapoor has ruled Bollywood for 4 decades, while his elder brother Boney Kapoor is a successful filmmaker. But, their brother Sanjay Kapoor could not achieve success like his brothers. Sanjay Kapoor started his acting career with ‘Prem’ released in 1995. But, the film did not get the success that the actor had expected. But, then in the same year, Sanjay Kapoor got a film which made him a star overnight.
‘Raja’ released in 1995 was a blockbuster
The name of the film we are talking about here was ‘Raja’. In this film, Sanjay Kapoor was seen with the superhit heroine of the 80-90 era, Madhuri Dixit. The pairing of Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Kapoor was well liked in this action romantic drama. Apart from Madhuri and Sanjay Kapoor, actors like Dalip Tahil, Mukesh Khanna, Paresh Rawal and Hamani Shivpuri were seen in supporting roles in the film. The film was released in theaters on 2 June 1995 and went on to give huge profits to the makers.
‘Raja’ also dominated Filmfare
The audience showered a lot of love on this film. Madhuri Dixit also won the Screen Award for Best Actress for this film. ‘Raja’ dominated the 41st Filmfare Awards as well. Madhuri Dixit received 11 nominations for the film including Best Actress, Paresh Rawal for Best Supporting Actor and Rita Bhaduri for Best Supporting Actress. However, even though Sanjay Kapoor became a star overnight with this film, none of his films after this could cast the same magic on the audience as Raja did. Due to which, after giving flop films, Sanjay Kapoor slowly moved away from the film world.
