Both the films of SS Rajamouli’s ‘Bahubali’ franchise ‘Bahubali: Before the Beginning’ and ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’ touched new heights of box office success. Critics also loved these films. People thronged the theatres. After the release of the first part, everyone started asking why Katappa killed Baahubali. With this, people were eagerly waiting for the second part and its release broke many box office records. Even today, these films are among the highest grossing films. Seeing their success, Rajamouli also decided to make a series and also invested Rs 300 crore, but this series could not be made till date.
Shooting lasted for 6 months
The shooting of the most expensive series of the ‘Bahubali’ franchise lasted for 6 months. Then it was stopped. The producers had invested a lot of money in it. The initial budget of ‘Bahubali: Before the Beginning’ was kept at Rs 300 crore, making it the most expensive creation of the Baahubali franchise. Its format was also quite different. It was to be shown on screen as a series. If this series had been made, it would have been called one of the most expensive TV series in India. Netflix also put Rs 150 crore at stake to make this series along with the makers. It was said that this initial budget was burned in 6 months and no result was obtained. The series was stopped after six months of shooting. Reportedly the producers were not satisfied with the visuals. At present, no official information has been revealed as to why its shooting was stopped.
How was this series going to be?
The story of ‘Bahubali: Before the Beginning’ is before both the films of the ‘Bahubali’ franchise, ‘Bahubali: Before the Beginning’ and ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’. It was to be made as a series. The episodes of this series were to tell the story of Shivagami Devi from her childhood to becoming the queen of Mahishmati. Anand Neelkantan’s books ‘The Rise of Shivagami’, ‘Chaturanga’, and ‘Queen of Mahishmati’ were taken as the basis of the story. This time the entire focus was going to be on Shivagami Devi. Shivagami’s power, politics, and conspiracies were to be told in this series. It was set according to the circumstances 50 years before the events of ‘Bahubali: The Beginning’ and about 75 years before ‘Bahubali: The Conclusion’.
Two actresses signed
Mrunal Thakur was initially chosen for the role of young Shivagami. Mrunal also shot for many days, then news came that she was dropped and the shooting was also stopped. Netflix found the visuals lacking and a new project was made to make it, due to which the budget also doubled. Vamika Gabbi was again signed for this role, but shooting could not be completed with her as well and this series was shelved. Along with the actress, the director was also changed several times. Now if this series is made afresh, then its interesting story can definitely win the hearts of the people.
