Missing ladies
The film ‘Lapata Ladies’, made under Aamir Khan’s production, was well liked by the people. Not only this, this film was also sent as an official entry in the Oscar from India. But since the past, this film is in discussion about the theft of its story. It was claimed on social media that the story of missing ladies was stolen from an Arabic short film ‘Burka City’. Now amid these controversies, the director of ‘Burka City’ has also spoken openly about this. In which French film maker Fabris Brack told that the story of the missing Ladies meets his short film Burka City to a large extent.
Did the director of Burka City say?
Reacting to the controversy in an interview to India Today, Brack said, “First, before watching the film, I was surprised by how much the film’s pitch is similar to my short film.” Then I saw the film and I was surprised to see that although the story was molded according to Indian culture, many aspects of my short film were clearly present. Noticely it is not a list in any way. Miserable, loving, innocent husband who loses his wife, is compared to another husband who is violent and lowly. The scene of the police officer is also exactly the same. A corrupt, violent and intimidation policeman is surrounded by two assistants. Of course, there is also a moment with a picture of a woman with a veil.
Many scenes of the film are exactly the same
The director further said, ‘The scene where the kind husband searches his wife in many shops, is particularly about to disclose, he shows the shopkeepers a picture of his veil wife, just as is shown in my short film. Then the shopkeeper’s wife comes out wearing a burqa, almost like Burka City. Finally there is a similarity in the theme of the film, where we find that the woman has deliberately decided to run away from her derogatory husband. The French filmmaker, stating the conclusion, said, “The film gives a similar message about the liberation of women and feminism.” Biplab Goswami, author of the missing Ladies, recently released a statement, responding to allegations of literary theft against the film. While refuting the claims, he also provided relevant documents to prove the story of the missing Ladies, characters and dialogues. He defended his work and stated that the detailed summary of the film was registered with the Screenriter Association in 2014 and the feature-length script ‘Two Brides’ was registered in 2018.
The writer of the film rejected allegations of theft
In his statement, Biplab Goswami, author of the missing Ladies, wrote, ‘The script of the missing ladies was developed on a large scale in many years. I first registered a detailed summary of the film with the ScreenReters Association on 3 July 2014, in which the entire story was outlined under the title ‘Two Brides’. There is also a scene in this registered summary that clearly describes the groom to bring home the wrong bride home and be shocked and shocked with the rest of his family members when they realize their mistake due to the veil. The story begins from here. I also clearly written about the scene of the worried groom’s visit to the police station and showing the only picture of my missing bride to the police officer, but the bride’s face was covered with a veil, resulting in a comical moment. He further reported, ‘On June 30, 2018, I registered the feature-length script’ Two Bride ‘with SWA. The script won the runner-up award at the Canthestan Storytellers Competition in 2018. Again, in this screenplay, I showed the scene of the policeman being happy after seeing the picture of the veil bride.
