‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ was the first film in the lead role of Salman Khan. Bhagyashree made her debut with this film. While Sooraj Barjatya of Rajshri Productions also had this first film as a director. With this film, Salman and Bhagyashree cast a spell on millions of hearts. Now in an interview given to ‘Lallantop’, Piyush Mishra has revealed that Sooraj Barjatya had offered him the film before Salman Khan. But then things didn’t work out. Piyush says it was an ‘accident’ for him, which he has no regrets about.
‘It was an accident, but I don’t regret it’
Piyush Mishra said in the interview, ‘It was an accident, but I do not regret it. I was then studying in the final year of the National School of Drama. Few months were left. My director called me to a room. I used to be a very handsome boy then. I had a German jaw and a Roman nose. When I reached his chamber, he introduced me to a gentleman who was a big director. I will not take names. He said that he is launching his son as a director. They are making a film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, they have finalized the girl for it and have now come to NSD to find a hero.’
Had met Raj Kumar Barjatya in NSD
Piyush Mishra says that Barjatya had asked him to come and meet him at the Mumbai office after finishing NSD. Even the director of the National School of Drama wanted Piyush to act in that film. But luck and Piyush Mishra had a different plan. He says, ‘He was happy to see me. He asked me my name, said that when you graduate from here, immediately come to Mumbai and meet me. He also gave me his visiting card. He said that we have an office in Prabhadevi, come and meet us there. I said okay, I will definitely come.
NFDC director told Piyush – go to Mumbai immediately
Piyush Mishra tells that during that meeting, Barjatya also took some of his photographs. 15 days after this meeting, Piyush Mishra met the director of NFDC (National Film Development Corporation of India), he told the actor that he would have to go to Mumbai immediately, even if he had to leave NSD midway.
Piyush Mishra said – the world was hated in those days
Piyush says, ‘I told him that I will go. But I didn’t go. Don’t know why then, there was a lot of sourness in the heart, don’t know why the world was hated. I went there after three years and then came to know that Salman Khan had become a star with that film. I thought it was a big deal. But if I had gone to Mumbai then, I would not have been able to do the things that I have done later. Everyone has their own journey, everyone has their own destiny.’
