Nithilan Swaminathan’s Tamil action thriller ‘Maharaja’, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. She has been dominating Chinese theaters since November last year. In less than a month it has become the highest-grossing Indian film in China since 2016 and 2018, preceded by Advait Chandan’s upcoming Bollywood musical ‘Secret Superstar’ starring Zaira Wasim. According to Sacknilk, the film has earned Rs 91.55 crore in 31 days. Due to this, the worldwide collection of the film has become 199.10 crores and the overseas collection has become 115.60 crores.
Highest grossing Indian film in China
Chinese Embassy in India spokesperson Yu Jing shared a big update on the box office performance of Maharaja in China on her X handle on Sunday. He shared a poster of the film, captioning it, ‘Maharaja has become the highest-grossing Indian film in China since 2018, earning ₹91.55 crore.’ According to cinema ticket sales portal Maoyan, the film starring Vijay Sethupathi grossed approximately RMB 13.37 million at the box office in China on its first day in November 2024.
