Vikas Bahl is one of those Bollywood directors who has given Bollywood great films like ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Queen’, ‘Hasi Toh Phasi’ to ‘Super 30’. It was a sci-fi thriller film, while making which even the director of the film i.e. Vikas Bahl himself did not know what he was making and after the release of the film, he was confused about why he made this film. Vikas Bahl had invested 200 crores in this sci-fi thriller film, but it could not even collect 20 crores at the box office and proved to be the biggest flop of the year.

When Ganpat was released in theatres, it received negative reviews from film critics and it also failed miserably in impressing the audience. The condition of the film was such that this film made in a budget of around 200 crores could not even touch the figure of 20 crores. While reviewing the film, the audience even said that the story of Ganpat had neither head nor tail. That is, the makers presented a film with a flop story to the audience. Looking at the condition of the film, Vikas Bahl had said that he himself was not able to understand in which direction the story of Ganpat was going. He had a lot of doubts about the story of the film. He also told that Ganpat was his dream project. He started working on the film with great passion, but gradually the story of the film started moving away from the direction he had thought. He had said in an interview- ‘I was writing the story of Ganpat and kept writing. Gradually the story kept changing and I myself did not understand when it went to the future backdrop. When I read the story, I myself did not understand how to narrate it. I just knew that it has to be completed.’
