The 78th Cannes Film Festival is being organized in the city of Cannes, France from 13 to 24 May. Last year, the Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s film ‘All We Imagine Age Light’ was shown in the prestigious Palm D’Or category at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. In this category, an India film was nominated after 30 years. Apart from this, the film also won the Grand Prix Award last year. But do you know that in the last few years, many Indian films have premiered in Cannes? Ever since the establishment of Cannes in 1946, Indian films began to premiere in Cannes. The first Indian film to be shown in Cannes was ‘Nicha Nagar’. Director Chetan Anand’s film ‘Nicha Nagar’ was released for the first time in Cannes. The film was awarded the ‘Grand Prix Do Festival International Do Film’. Let us tell you that the competitive feature is given by the Grand Prix Festival Jury to one of the competitive films.

Indian films in Cannes this year

Five Indian films will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Homebound: Neeraj Ghevan’s ‘Homebound’ has been selected for the ‘An Certain Regard’ section of the Cannes Film Festival. It is produced by Karan Johar. It stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar in the lead roles. Aranayer Din Raat: Bengali film ‘Aranayer Din Raat’ will also be shown in Cannes. Directed by Satyajit Ray, the film will have a world premiere. ‘Aranyer Din Raat’ was released in 1970. The film stars Sharmila Tagore, Simi Grewal, Aparna Sen, Soumitra Chatterjee and Shubhendu Chatterjee. Tanvi The Great: The film ‘Tanvi The Great’, directed by Anupam Kher, is going to be held in the World Premier Cannes Film Festival 2025’s ‘Marche Do Film’. Shubhangi Dutt is making her debut on the big screen with this film. Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swamy, Pallavi Joshi and Karan Tacker are part of the film. Doll made from Mitti: This is a short film made by the students of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata. It has been selected for the ‘La Cinefe section’. Charak: The film, directed by Shiladitya Maulik and produced by Sudipto Sen, sheds light on the traditional Charak Pooja of Bengal and the terrible scenes like superstitions, especially burning and hurting themselves.
