New Delhi: Rajesh Khanna was one of India’s most prominent Bollywood superstars. Even today people remember his stardom. However, it is interesting to know that Bollywood’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna had experienced a phase in his life when he had to vacate his grand mansion and live in a rented house. But do you know that it is believed that that luxurious house of the actor has ruined the lives of 3 superstars and in this article we are discussing about that bungalow.
Bharat Bhushan bought in the 50s and went bankrupt
The two bungalows located on Mumbai’s luxurious Carter Road were owned by the Bollywood royal family since the 50s. The first was Aashiyana, which featured famous musician Naushad. However, here we are talking about a bungalow named Ashirwad located nearby. This bungalow was originally owned by an Anglo-Indian family and its original name is now lost. Box office king Bharat Bhushan had bought this house in the early 1950s. He was at the peak of his career with hit films like Baiju Bawra, Mirza Ghalib, Gateway of India and Barsaat Ki Raat. But by the 60s, Bharat Bhushan’s star started fading. His films flopped and the superstar incurred huge debts, after which he had to sell his house. This was the time when negative stories about the bungalow came to light for the first time. After Bharat Bhushan, Rajendra Kumar and Rajesh Khanna also met the same fate.
Rajendra Kumar’s career sank in 1968
Given the dilapidated condition of the bungalow in the early 60s, rising star Rajendra Kumar was able to buy it for only Rs 60,000. He named the bungalow Dimple after his daughter. While Dimple was there, Rajendra Kumar kept getting hits one after the other and he came to be known as Jubilee Kumar. However, around the year 1968, luck changed and Kumar’s films started failing. His production house also failed and he was facing serious financial crisis. Later he was forced to sell the bungalow to recover his losses.
Then Rajesh Khanna also got ruined
Then this house went to new superstar Rajesh Khanna. Before he even turned 30, he became Rajesh Khanna’s number one actor. He named the bungalow Ashirwad. This house became a center of tourist attraction in Mumbai, just like Amitabh’s Jalsa and Shahrukh’s Mannat did years later. But by 1974, Rajesh Khanna’s films started failing and he lost his superstar tag. After losing fame, his marriage broke up and towards the end of his career, Rajesh Khanna reportedly lived alone in the bungalow where he breathed his last.
A businessman bought this house in 2014
In 2014, this bungalow was sold to an industrialist for Rs 90 crore. In February 2016, the new owner demolished the iconic bungalow to build a new property in its place. With this, the journey of that house which was the home of three Bollywood stars ended. Those who believe in Vaastu and Feng Shui say that the way a house is constructed plays a very important role in determining one’s destiny but if it goes wrong, it becomes bad luck for the homeowner. Hence, the story of a bungalow in Mumbai is also similar which allegedly ‘ruined’ three Bollywood superstars.
