Madhubala acted in about 70 Hindi films during her 22 -year career. The actress died on 23 February 1969 at the age of 36. Madhubala’s real name was Mumtaz Jahan Begum Dehalvi who later adopted the stage name Madhubala. Madhubala was born in a poor Pashtun family and her parents were Ataullah Khan and Ayesha Begum. Life made many challenges to the family. At the age of five and six, Madhubala lost her three sisters and two brothers. It is sad that only four siblings live up to adulthood. Since the family went to a nearby theater to watch the film, he managed to escape the dock explosion, destroying their house.
Learned Hindi and Urdu at home
Madhubala never went to school and her father taught her Hindi and Urdu at home. After losing his job at Imperial Tobacco Company in Peshawar, Pakistan, Madhubala’s father brought the family to Delhi and later to Bombay. Madhubala made her debut as a child artist in the 1942 film Basant at the young age of nine. He was named Baby Mumtaz. The film later became the highest grossing film of that year. He immediately gained popularity and worked as a child artist in various films including Rajputani, Phulwari, Pujari and Dhanna Bhagat. It is said that while going to a Kashmiri astrologer with her father, the astrologer predicted that she would earn a lot of money but will never get true love.
There was an affair with Prem Nath
She was in a relationship with actor Prem Nath but separated due to religious differences. He fell in love with his Mughal-e-Azam co-star Dilip Kumar, who was a very popular relationship at that time. He was also engaged but Dilip Kumar forbade him to have a relationship with his family after marriage, which he rejected. They separated but this broke Madhubala’s heart. She later married famous singer and actor Kishore Kumar. Madhubala became secluded in her last few days and died at the young age of 36 due to heart -related diseases.
