Bankruptcy keeps knocking on my door every few years, and then I have to tell myself to find a job quickly. People ask me why I don’t work regularly, but if you notice, most artists around the world are not working non-stop.
Emphasis laid on survival in the industry
Varun takes great pride in being a part of television for more than two decades. He further said, sometimes, I will admit that I feel like I could have had a bigger car, a bigger house, but staying in the industry for 30 years is more important than having a big car.
there was very little money left
He shared that there was a time when he was not being given any work and he had money left only for one and a half or two months, emphasizing how the expenses increase when there is a small child in the house. There is a challenge. But when you have a good wife, you can avoid this problem. He gave the credit for his financial management to Rajeshwari Sachdev.
It was difficult to feed 7 people
He said – I will not have more than Rs 2 lakh in my bank account. This is around 2015. It contained me, my wife, our four-year-old child, my parents and two dogs. This was a family of seven, and most people don’t realize it, but when you have a small child in the house, your expenses increase a lot. Then you add the dogs. It is very expensive to take care of them. I was almost down to my last penny.
