New Delhi. Vidhu Vinod Chopra is a famous filmmaker. Last year he made ’12th Fail’, after which he once again came into the limelight. In the year 2007, he came up with a multi-starrer film named ‘Eklavya: The Royal Guard’. Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan made a lot of money in this action thriller film. Critics praised the film but unfortunately this film could not do wonders at the box office. Vidhu Vinod Chopra had faced budget constraints while making this film, which he revealed recently. After the release of this film, he also mentioned the car worth 4 crores, which he gifted to Amitabh Bachchan.
When Vidhu Vinod Chopra opened his box of memories, he narrated a funny anecdote related to Amitabh Bachchan and his mother. He told how he refused to book a room worth Rs 65,000 for Amitabh Bachchan due to lack of budget. He told how he himself used to drive a Maruti van and he gifted a luxury car worth Rs 4 crore to Big B.
The filmmaker’s hands got tight during ‘Eklavya’
According to a report in ‘Indian Express’, Vidhu Vinod Chopra had told in an interview that he was in crisis during the shooting of the film. It was so difficult that either I would have booked a room for Amitabh Bachchan or else I would not have been able to take Saif, Sanjay and I would not have been able to make the film ‘Eklavya’.
The gift was a Rolls Royce Phantom car worth Rs 4 crore
Vidhu further told that he later gifted a luxury car to Big B, this was possible only when he earned money in his career. Vidhu gifted a Rolls Royce Phantom car worth Rs 4 crores while at that time he himself used to drive a Maruti van. The filmmaker told about his mother’s reaction after hearing that I have gifted a car to Amitabh.
When mother asked- ‘Did you give the car to Lambu?’
He had told that I went with my mother to gift a car to Amitabh. Mother gave the car to Big B. After this she came back and sat in the car which was a blue Maruti van. Mother used to call Amitabh Lambu. At that time I did not have a driver so I was driving. Mother asked, ‘Did you give the car to Lambu?’ I said – yes. Then she said, ‘Why don’t you buy the car yourself?’ I said, ‘I will buy the car, but there is still time.’
As soon as I got to know the price of the car, I got slapped on the cheek
Vidhu said that mother did not know the price of that car till now. She then told me, ‘That car must be worth 11 lakhs.’ After hearing this from mother, I started laughing because she did not know that the car was worth 4 crores. When I then told her the real price, she slapped me and called me stupid. I told the filmmaker that I can never forget that incident.
