Vikrant Massey discusses the upcoming film ‘The Sabarmati Report’.
Vikrant Massey is now in the headlines for his upcoming film ‘The Sabarmati Report’, for which only a few days are left for its release. This film will be released in theaters on November 15. Meanwhile, some controversies have also arisen regarding the film. Actually, this film of Vikrant Massey is based on the Godhra incident and the subsequent riots in Gujarat on 27 February 2002. The film has not been released in theaters yet and various theories are being made about it. Meanwhile, Vikrant Massey himself broke his silence on these theories and told why he agreed to do this film. During a conversation on India TV’s popular chat show ‘Coffee on Kurukshetra’, Vikrant Massey openly discussed ‘The Sabarmati Report’ and answered questions related to the film.
Vikrant Massey was hesitant in doing The Sabarmati Report
When Vikrant Massey was asked why he agreed to this film, the actor replied – ‘Ekta Kapoor had brought this film to me. When she brought this film to me, I was a little scared, because people in general and especially in cinema, no one talked about this topic. I told her I will read the script and tell her… So Ekta Kapoor told me that I know you are hesitant. She gave me the script and some research reports and asked me to read it and tell her. When I read the research material and the script, I felt that no one talked about this topic and whatever was discussed, many facts were not included.
What did Vikrant Massey say next?
The actor further says- ‘There were three reasons for doing this film. Firstly, in that incident, 59 people were burnt alive that day and none of them knew the names of even two people. The second thing is that there is a generation which does not know anything about this subject. A lot changed due to this incident, but the new generation does not know much about it. And the last thing we wanted to talk about and you will be able to see this in the trailer too, was the role of the media in this entire incident. What did the media do about this? He told the truth, if not then why didn’t he tell? Because no one had talked about it in cinema, we wanted to do it.
What was the role of media?
When asked about the role of media in the Godhra incident, Vikrant Massey said, ‘Any conscious person will ask this question. I have been meeting many journalists for the last 4 days and they are also asking these questions. I want to answer what role the media played and has played in this incident. But, I want to give the answer through cinema. Media is called the fourth pillar of democracy for a reason. Because of social media, there has been so much left and right. Our effort through this film is that just once you remove everything left and right and see that you have seen those 59 people only as statistics. ,
The film has been made from the angle of journalism
According to Vikrant Massey, this entire film has been made from the angle of journalism. The film tells how the Godhra incident was presented by the journalists at that time. The entire film is based on this. The trailer of the film tells how Hindi journalists are considered inferior to English journalists. Ever since the trailer of Vikrant Massey’s upcoming film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ has been released, Godhra incident is being searched on Google.
