Lata changed the name
He changed his name after a famous character Latika. Born as Hema, she was later renamed Lata, which was inspired by the name of a character in her father’s play ‘Bhav Bandhan’.
Songs at the age of five years
Since his father was a theater actor and classical singer, he was introduced to music at a very young age and started singing at the age of five. In an interview to Stardust, Lata Mangeshkar recalled, ‘It happened that once my father told his disciple (disciple) that he should practice a raga when he was handling some work. I was playing nearby and suddenly a tone of the raga being sung by the disciple was disturbed. And the next minute I was fixing it. When my father returned, he saw a glimpse of the disciple in his daughter.
The first song never went live
At the age of nine in 1938, Lata gave her first public performance at Nutan Theater, Sholapur. He recorded his first song for the Marathi film ‘Kiti Hasal’ in 1942. However, the song ‘Nachu or Gade, Khela Sari Mani Haas Bahus’ was removed from the final cut of the film.
Don’t listen to your songs
Lata Mangeshkar never listened to her songs. Talking to Bollywood Hungama, Lata Mangeshkar once said that she never listens to her songs, because she sees many flaws in her singing.
Nehru also cried
His patriotic song made Prime Minister Nehru cry. Lata Mangeshkar dedicated the song ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke people’ to the soldiers who were martyred in the 1962 war. On 27 January 1963, his patriotic song made Prime Minister Nehru cry at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.
