Today every artist wants to work with him, but there was a time when Bollywood’s famous playback singer Alka Yagnik refused to work with AR Rahman. This has been revealed by Alka Yagnik herself.
When Alka Yagnik rejected AR Rahman’s offer
In a conversation with Radio Nasha, Alka Yagnik recalled the time when she received an offer from AR Rahman to work with him, but Alka rejected the offer. Revealing about this, Alka said that this was the first time when AR Rahman approached her to work with him, but at that time no one knew her and her dates were also fixed for a long time. In such a situation, she refused to work with him.
AR Rahman was new in the industry then: Alka Yagnik
Alka Yagnik, while recalling this incident, said- ‘AR Rahman was a new name then. No one knew him at that time. Especially no one in Mumbai. Yes, people knew him in the South, he was young then. During that time, one day I got a call from Chennai and they said that there is a new composer AR Rahman, he is a big fan of yours and is making a song for a film. He wants you and Kumar Sanu to sing for it. But the problem was that they were calling me immediately.’
Kumar Sanu also denied
Alka further says- ‘My dates were fixed for a long time and I had also worked with many composers in Mumbai. I had built my rapport and did not want to leave them. At that time I did not know who AR Rahman was and neither did I know about his capabilities. I called Kumar Sanu and came to know that he too had received a call from Chennai and he had refused to go to Chennai. After this, I too refused to go to Chennai, but later when I heard his songs, I felt like banging my head against the wall. They were very beautiful. After this, when I met him, he said that you did not sing my old songs. Then I felt very embarrassed. I wanted to bury myself in the ground. This was my loss.’
