Konkona Sen Sharma has made shocking claims. Actress Konkana, who has been working in the Hindi and Bengali film industry for the last 20 years, said that dirty things happen to girls on the sets and these acts are done by big people of the film industry. That’s why no one is ever able to raise voice against them. Not only this, people are also discriminated on the basis of caste.
Who will sit where is decided according to caste
Talking about the Hema Committee report in an interview given to Sucharita Tyagi, Konkana said, ‘On the film sets, but in the entire film industry, people are discriminated against on the basis of caste and class. Who has to sit where? Is seating allowed or not? Who has to eat what? Whose bathroom will be where? All this is decided on the basis of caste.
“Actresses are considered ‘furniture'”
Konkana further said, ‘If you are not a senior actress then you are treated very badly. You are considered ‘furniture’. It is very difficult to work in such an environment. I can’t even imagine how difficult it would be to bear all this.
What is Hema Committee report?
In the year 2017, a Malayalam actress was raped. This incident sparked a movement in the Malayalam film industry. In such a situation, the Kerala government formed a committee under the chairmanship of Justice K. Hema and ordered an investigation. The committee conducted research on the Malayalam film industry for two years and submitted a report to the government in 2019. But the government did not allow this report to come out. When RTI and journalists put pressure, this report was made public in August 2024 and this report exposed the dark secrets of Malayalam film industry.
