New Delhi: Telugu films are performing better than Hindi films at the box office in the year 2024. Bollywood managed to recover in the year 2023 thanks to superhit films like Jawaan, Gadar and Animal, however South cinema has dominated after ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ became the highest grossing film of the year in the Hindi belt.
Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani has now presented the perspective of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun, who became famous across the country with his 2021 blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rise’. In an interview to ‘Galatta Plus’, Nikkhil Advani told that Allu Arjun had once hinted at a serious issue which he sees in Bollywood today. He quoted Allu Arjun as saying, ‘You all have forgotten how to be a hero.’
Nikhil explained Allu’s point of view in detail. He said that South films have capitalized on heroism while telling stories on a dull subject like irrigation. The South film industry has been presenting such topics with great action and heroism, which the audience has liked very much. Nikhil said, ‘Everyone associates South cinema with mythology, but they keep the original sentiment in their films. If they make a film on water irrigation, they fill it with great action, incredible moments of heroism.’
Nikhil Advani mentioned Kalia-Coolie
While exploring the history of Bollywood, Nikhil mentioned great films like Kaalia and Coolie, where Amitabh Bachchan’s characters won hearts with their heroism. He also mentioned Shahrukh Khan’s role in ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, which depicts the spirit of heroism that is missing in many of today’s films.
Allu Arjun accepts the influence of Bollywood on South cinema
Interestingly, Allu Arjun had praised Bollywood in an old interview. He stressed that actors from different industries respect each other. He acknowledged the influence of Bollywood on South cinema and said that even though Bollywood is facing challenges today, excellent cinema has been produced in the last six decades.
