Mumbai. Today is the fifth death anniversary of actor Irrfan Khan, who gave many memorable films in Indian cinema. He died on 29 April 2020. He was fighting a battle with ‘neuroendocrine tumor’. His last film was ‘Angrezi Medium’. He gave many hit and memorable films like ‘Maqbool’, ‘Haasil’, ‘Hindi Medium’, ‘Talwar’. He was born in Tonk, Rajasthan. Born in a Muslim family, Irfan did not like meat or fish i.e. non-veg. He was a vegetarian. Because of this people called him Brahmin.
Irrfan Khan has talked about his food habits and not eating non-veg in many interviews. Irfan’s full name was Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan. He belonged to a Muslim Pathan family. He had told in many of his interviews that despite coming from a Muslim family, he did not like to eat non-veg.
Irrfan Khan had told that he has been a vegetarian since childhood. Because of his not eating non-veg, his father jokingly called him a Brahmin. His father often told him that a Brahmin was born in a Pathan’s house. After his father, people around him also started calling him Brahmin.
Many reports have claimed that Irfan’s father often took him hunting, but he did not like killing animals. He knew how to use a rifle, but avoided hunting. He liked animals. Felt connected to them. That’s why he could never become a non-vegetarian. However, Irfan loved the atmosphere and greenery of Jangala.
Irrfan Khan wanted to become an actor since childhood. He took admission in National School of Drama. His father passed away some time after admission and his mother also passed away four days later. Irrfan has left his indelible mark in Indian cinema, which will remain forever.
