Colombo, Sep 18 (IANS) Latest data from the National Dengue Control Unit shows that over 38,000 cases of dengue have been reported in Sri Lanka from January to September 17.
The data also shows that there have been 17 deaths from dengue during the same period. According to news agency Xinhua, this is a mortality rate of 0.04 percent. Sri Lanka’s most populous province has reported the highest number of dengue cases. The province has reported 16,021 cases, which is 41.9 percent of the total cases.
The Northern Province recorded 4,744 cases or 12.4 per cent of the total. The National Dengue Control Unit has also identified 10 high-risk areas for dengue.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, a total of over 88,000 cases of dengue were reported last year, resulting in 57 deaths.
