On working hours, on Saturday, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra had said that this debate is going in the wrong direction. I have great respect for Narayana Murthy and other corporate leaders. I say that we should focus on the quality of work, not the quantity of work. Therefore, the point here is not about working 70 or 90 hours.
Apart from this, taking a dig at the statement of L&T Chairman SM Subramanian, Mahindra had said that my wife is very wonderful and I like to look at her.
Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy was the first to start the debate over working hours. He advocated working 70 hours a week.
After this, recently the statement of L&T Chairman SM Subramanian went viral, in which he advocated working for 90 hours a week.
Subramanian had said in the viral video that what do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? For how long can wives look at their husbands? For this reason, come to office and work.
Subramanian’s statement was condemned by Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone, RPG Group chairperson Harsh Goenka and former Indian badminton star Jwala Gutta.
Facing criticism, L&T said the chairman’s statement reflected the larger ambition of nation-building, “which emphasizes that extraordinary results require extraordinary effort.”
